Impressions of a winter evening in Bonn

Just as the year has changed from 2014 to 2015 a walk led us through the evening streets of Bonn, still illuminated with Christmas decorations. January 1st is a good day to take photographs in a city – it is a lot calmer than other days…

Christmas Impressions

Christmas in Northern Europe is all about lights to brighten the rather dark time of the year, of meeting friends and family. Germany has one special addition to Christmas time which are the Christmas fairs or Christmas Markets. While it is cold outside there are huts and stands in the middle of towns which offer food  (for example the famous Bratwurst, local specialties which vary across the country) all food is mainly warm as it has to warm the visitors. There is Christmas decoration and potential gifts, often from little craft-shops and “Glühwein” – a spiced, warm red wine, – very tasty. All of this was much missed by me last year living in Myanmar. So I enjoyed it even more during a visit in Bonn.
